VPCT Presents Our 2025 Summer Production of

The Phantom of the Kitchen

Written and Directed by Olivia Wells

The Phantom of the Kitchen is a fast-paced, comedic stage play that follows a recently divorced mom, Sarah, and her two teenage children, Alex and Jessie, as they move into a suspiciously affordable, outdated house. The siblings couldn’t be more different—Alex is a preppy overachiever, while Jessie is a sarcastic goth—but both are thrown together to uncover a mystery when they realize their new home is haunted by a dramatic ghost. The ghost, Margot Sinclair, was a passionate (but overlooked) community theatre actress who now haunts the house in a rotating cast of characters. Her flair for the theatrical is matched only by her commitment to method acting… even in death. As Alex and Jessie dig into the mystery, they discover a strange connection between Margot and their creepy neighbor, Mr. Grimble, a handyman. Their investigation reveals that Grimble may have had something to do with her untimely death.

The play is a blend of family comedy, ghost story parody, and lighthearted mystery. At its core, it’s a story about grief, second chances, and the power of stepping into your own spotlight—dead or alive.

Content Advisory for The Phantom of the Kitchen: This production contains mild language, innuendo, and dark comedic themes involving death, ghostly hauntings, and eccentric neighbor behavior. While nothing is graphic or overtly violent, the humor and subject matter are best suited for older audiences. Recommended for ages 13 and up.
